Waterford City Places To Visit
Waterford, in Munster, is the Republic of Ireland's oldest city. Its impressive heritage helps make it a hotspot for history buffs, culture vultures and a variety of other people alike.
Vikings were influential in the city's early history; Waterford even had a long line of Viking kings, most famously Ivar, who reigned from probably 969 until 1000.
The city has also been historically renowned for glass-making, and has made Waterford Crystal almost constantly since the late eighteenth century.
Esteemed historical figures associated with the city include the poet Marie de Solms, Victoria Cross recipient Patrick Mahoney and Irish nationalist Thomas Francis Meagher.

Fancy a bit of theatre? Waterford actually has two major theatres, the Theatre Royal and Garter Lane Arts Centre. There are also art galleries and craft studios that are well worth visiting.
Another good reason to expect a thrilling and cosmopolitan evening experience in Waterford is that, in 2015, the city was awarded a Purple Flag, indicating excellence in its evening economy.
Much of Waterford's early history is reflected today in its Viking Triangle, where you can still see original 10th century structures. It is fascinating to visit this tranquil area and think that it was once a bustling Viking city.
You can also enjoy the beautiful scenery here while sitting in one of the restaurants that have opened in the area. Indeed, there's hardly a shortage of enticing eateries in Waterford!
We would particularly recommend the Italian restaurant Emilianos.
