Mullingar Places to Visit
Mullingar is County Westmeath's county town, and was traditionally a market town amid a largely rural, agricultural area. Today, it remains appealing for its peaceful feel and scenic environment.
The town's name is derived from a mill mentioned in the legend of the early Irish abbot Saint Colmán mac Luacháin. Mullingar's original name was Maelblatha.
During its lengthy history, Mullingar has also become known for the numerous neighbouring lakes, cattle-trading, and exporting pewterware items manufactured by the local business Mullingar Pewter. It is also known for being the birthplace of One Direction star Niall Horan.
