Clondalkin Places to Visit
Clondalkin lies 10 kilometres from Dublin, within the county of South Dublin. The town is thought to have begun as a monastic settlement over 1,400 years ago, and is particularly notable for its eighth century round tower, one of the country's oldest and most effectively preserved.
Historical round towers are scattered throughout Ireland, but Clondalkin's, which reaches 25.6 meters in height, is worth seeing for its conical cap, which is the original cap, not a modern reconstruction.
Esteemed people associated with Clondalkin include The Hobbit and Poldark actor Aidan Turner, novelist Katharine Tynan and RTÉ radio presenter Eric Moore.

We have already mentioned Clondalkin's round tower, and history buffs visiting the town should also appreciate St. Brigid's Well. This is reported to have been built in the fifth century for baptising pagans.
Despite being so close to Dublin, Clondalkin is a thriving retail centre; the area's major shopping facilities include The Mill Shopping Centre, so-called as it was built where a mill once stood, and Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.
As well as primary and secondary schools that vary in their denominations, Clondalkin has three Irish-language schools - or, to use the Irish term, Gaelscoileanna.
Clondalkin's close proximity to Dublin means that you have plenty of hotels in the local area to choose from. For a relaxing experience in a beautiful setting, we advocate Finnstown Country House Hotel.
For something to eat in the centre, try the Pistacchio Restaurant.
Transport in Clondalkin, Dublin
It is easy to travel into Dublin from Clondalkin, due largely to the huge number of bus routes connecting both places. Bus routes operated by Dublin Bus include the 13, 68, 69, 76 and 40. Not all of these routes, however, take in Dublin city centre, so remember to take account of this.
Clondalkin's railway station is at the R113 road, specifically the part called Fonthill Road; the station itself sometimes has this name on Irish Rail Information screens. From here, too, Dublin can be easily reached.
