The worst seafood I have ever had in Dublin. I am not being unfair, an utter rip off. Such a shame, it has alot going for it. I had the Loster and it was distroyed with what tasted like tinned mushroom soup. I was not alone. Out of a table of 15 different mains we were all disappointed. Shame on you Johnnie Fox's..such a beautiful setting, great pub, music. Go for the 'pub' ..dont eat. read more >>
High Above the Rest
Johnnie Foxes Pub in Glencullen Dublin is Ireland's Highest Pub and is also one of the oldest having been established in 1798. We made the somewhat tricky journey up the mountain through the winding roads and went there for lunch today. The pub is very quaint and takes great pride in showcasing interesting old Irish household objects. We had a nice light lunch there today, trying both the leak and potato soup and the chowder. This is a nice place for lunch but would be a real winner for a relaxing few pints and a great place to bring visitors. read more >>
Went for a meal here last weekend and have to say that the food was just yummy !
Being a vegetarian, its hard to get food that has a really nice taste - but our meal here definately did.
We loved the authenticity of the place, with the sawdust on the floor and the old chairs around the place.
The atmosphere was great and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - definately recommended ! read more >>
Johnnie Fox's is pretty much a tourist trap..but i'm not a tourist and I still enjoy drinking here. The inside decor is very traditional irish, they always have live music which is enjoyable too. The food is nice enough but a little overpriced, the atmosphere is very relaxed though and you will meet some lovely people from all over the world here. read more >>

Johnnie Fox's is by far one of my favourite pubs. Naturally I don't go there during tourist season (it's usually heaving with Americans enthusing about how they're Irish, and there's no seats) but otherwise it's great. The atmosphere is excellent, and sometimes during the weekends they have ceili bands on. The journey can be a bit harsh for people with weak stomachs, but it's worth it for the food and the view. This place is especially great during winter, has a very homely feel! read more >>
very disappointed! One of the most famous pubs in Ireland due to its location and highness... and then, when you get there, you stay in a closed environment (yes, there are no windows, you can not see anything..) and expensive food.. it also takes forever to arrive! The staff think they are God... why can't they answer gently to questions? Why do they need to be rude? Really really sad about this place. I expected much more... if you are coming to Ireland and want typical places, avoid it, please. They are not worth the journey. read more >>
I went there with some fellas after work and i did loved it. The view from the mountains is very beautiful and the inside is great either. With some traditional music it is a great place for tourists. The price can be a bit expensive, but for an special ocasion is a good place to go. read more >>
Johnnie foxes, the legend, the tourist trap, the highest pub in Ireland? I went to JF's once and had a mixed experience, I wasn't in the best form from the night before so the drive up there was slightly ropey (I wasn't driving I hasten to add), just a bad passenger. So it probably wasn't the best idea to go for smoked salmon and and a pint of Guinness when I got there. After the shaky start I was grand though. It was a Sunday afternoon and a band came on, they were very good and whipped up a good atmosphere. It was off season so there weren't bus loads of american tourists to annoy anyone. It was nice to get a look round the place, they have some good trinketry and photo's of various famous people. I suppose it's one of things you have to do once. Probably would only venture back if I had visitors over or something. read more >>
